Tube set ruby ring
I had a go at tube setting for the first time today. I have made a contemporary looking silver ring from 2mm round wire and set a 3mm ruby (my birthstone) in a piece of silver tube (outer diameter 3.5mm, inner diameter 2.mm):

Here I used 1.5mm square wire and 1mm letter stamps to create a set of stackable rings. Obviously you could write any words or phrases but I have chosen ‘know yourself’ (a short phrase that I like) and ‘pocket full of dreams’ (from Alicia Keys New York song) as examples:
These rings were a bit of an experiement really. One is silver with a 9ct gold centre and the other is silver with a dark patina finish and a small hole to add detail. They are designed to be worn as part of a series of stack rings:
I used a piercing saw to cut the intricate veins in the leaf necklace below:
These studs were inspired by the blue forget-me-nots in my garden. The petals have a slightly textured surface and a 9ct gold centre:
The necklace below is based on a cherry blossom:
I have added to my ‘circle’ collection recently. The pieces all make use of hammered silver circles:
This necklace doesn’t need a clasp, you just loop the smaller circle through the larger one and wear as loose or tight as you want:
Hammered bangle, hammered circle studs, hammered drop circle earrings and domed studs:
I haven’t posted anything for a while because I have been converting my outhouse into a workshop/studio. It was a big job and there are still bits to do but here it is so far:
I needed a new fruit bowl but couldn’t find one I liked in the shops. Luckily I have a friend who is an awesome ceramics artists. Everything she make is hand built rather than thrown. Anyway, she let me come to her studio to make myself a bowl. It was a lot more difficult that I first thought! I’m glad I was after something organic looking!
I made this pendant and ring out of sapele (hard wood) and inlaid it with brass. I intend it to be worn in the Summer months:
This weekend I made this silver cuff with textured finish and rolled edges:
On Saturday I went to see the ‘Collect’ exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery in Chelsea. There were 10 rooms with so much inspirational work! It took several hours to walk round. There were objects and vessels made from glass, metals, ceramics etc and amazing jewellery made from everything you could possibly imagine using all sorts of handmade processes. I highly recommend a visit!

Unfortunately I couldn’t afford to buy anything from the exhibit but I did buy a couple of books which have inspired me to start experimenting with different materials to make jewellery. I made the ring and bangle below from acrylic and laser ply and then went on to experiment with acrylic to make a collection of rings:
